Extremely slow installation of OSX 10.10 Yosemite

I was experiencing very lengthy install while upgrading my Mac mini 2011 from 10 find out here now.9 Mavericks to 10.10 Yosemite Developer Preview. The install process just appeared to hang at “5mins left”.

After some research, I believe that the cause of this is the MacTex library. If you have installed the MaxTex or any Tex library, you may experience this. The solution is just to wait, it may take a good couple of hours. Leave it overnight and it should be ready the next morning 🙂

  1. Intersting. I havr been trying to install PB3 for 5 hours now. It has hung for hours at the 1 min. mark. I do have MacTeX installed. So I will wait and see.

  2. It is actually caused by MacTeX, be patient and check the logs (Cmd+L). As long as something is happening, leave it to do its job.

  3. I’ve experienced the same, and as I had MacTeX 2013 and 2014 together, installation of Yosemite was very long (installation program said : 2 minutes left… during 2 hour). But History log confirm that installation is in progress.

  4. I got the same, and we did indeed trace it to the undeleted old versions of TeX (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013). We had to abort the install of Yosemite, reboot and log in in single-user mode (Console). Then delete the old directories in texlive directories (check in users’ home directories AND in their Library directories), and also (critical) get rid of any “Recovered files” folders (check Trash). They seemed to contain soft links to some of the TeX stuff, which was also causing the installer grief.
